Last night, 80s icon Michael J. Fox went on Letterman to debut the Nike Mag (AKA, the shoes from Back to the Future, Part II). Nike has produced 1500 pair of the limited-edition, light-up (but, alas, not self-lacing) sneakers. 150 pair per day of the futuristic kicks are being auctioned on ebay starting September 8th. Some pairs have gone for over $75,000. All proceeds from the auctions will benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

We like to see members of the tech community giving back, and Fox mentioned in the interview that some private individuals, including Google co-founder Sergey Brin, have pledged to match all funds generated by the auction up to $50 million. We salute everyone involved in this venture for coming up with and executing a delightful fundraiser for such a worthy cause. You can find the auctions here.
