"AutumnYour grocery list probably includes coffee—not “check the cyber incident update.” But technology became part of the shopping trip this month: GIANT’s website and app returned October 20 after roughly eight days offline following a cyberattack on parent company Ahold Delhaize. Stores remained open, but GIANT’s own online ordering, pickup, and delivery services were disrupted. That hit close to home for shoppers in communities including King of Prussia, as MONTCO.Today reported October 23. Ahold Delhaize says it took systems offline as a protective measure in its October 19 update. Our small-business takeaway: your doors can be open while an important sales channel is closed. Knowing how you’ll take orders and communicate with customers during an outage deserves a place on the operating checklist.

Meanwhile, Conshohocken’s Boomi is tackling a less dramatic—but equally important—technology headache: can you trust the information feeding your AI? The company announced its acquisition of Elementary Data on October 19, a move covered by MONTCO.Today on October 22. According to Boomi’s announcement, the acquisition adds tools for monitoring data reliability, quality, and governance. Think of it as checking the ingredients before asking AI to cook dinner. For a local business experimenting with automation, the practical question isn’t just “What can this tool do?” It’s also “Are our customer records, inventory numbers, and other inputs accurate enough to guide its work?”

Philadelphia’s innovation scene also has a substantial deal to talk about. In its October 20 report on Proscia, Technical.ly explored Agilent’s agreement to acquire the digital-pathology company for $240 million in cash, with up to $30 million more tied to milestones. Proscia’s cofounder also emphasized the company’s continuing interest in Philadelphia talent. This is an agreement, not a completed acquisition: Agilent says closing remains subject to customary conditions. It’s a reminder that some of the region’s most consequential technology works behind the scenes. Our takeaway for growing businesses: dependable systems, well-managed data, and people who understand both are worth building before the next big opportunity arrives.
