Even as IT Professionals, sometimes we can’t tell the difference. What is a company to do?

Add a trap. A number of years ago Microsoft introduced Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) which looked promising. However, the process of examining each email before delivery created a 1-3 minute delay, which was unacceptable to many people, and it didn’t necessarily stop phishing emails or stop spam emails.

ATP’s current generation is greatly improved. ATP tests every link in the email, scans all attachments, and watches the results for signs of malware, phishing, and virus. At your inbox, meanwhile, the header information will be delivered and your email body will be in “read only” mode until ATP has deemed it safe. Absolutely wonderful!

In order to stop phishing emails and stop spam emails, our office deployed ATP several months ago. The program reroutes them from the inbox to the quarantine. Users receive a daily “quarantine report” containing a list of suspect emails, which includes the sender’s email address, as well as the subject line so that the recipient can decide whether to receive the email or keep it in quarantine.

That is not all: We have created a “special sauce” which increases the chances that your outgoing emails go directly to recipients without being flagged, quarantined, or sorted into spam.

Licensing and Implementation costs are minimal with CMIT Solutions of Stamford. We have created an implementation process that not only adds ATP to your email flow, but also provides the right reporting and alerting to stop phishing emails and stop spam emails.

Alerts are handled daily by the Advanced Technical Services team (ATS) here at CMIT Solutions of Stamford, who know our clients, thereby short cutting the process of dividing out what you need versus the clutter.

Call 203-595-9091 option 3 for Sales for more information or to add this service to your email system

~Linda

What to learn more about the under the covers? Below are some excerpts from the Microsoft reference docs.

Excerpts from Microsoft articles

A Definition of Advanced Threat Protection. Advanced threat protection (ATP) refers to a category of security solutions that defend against sophisticated malware or hacking-based attacks targeting sensitive data. Advanced threat protection solutions can be available as software or as managed services.

Microsoft Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) is a cloud-based email filtering service that helps protect your organization against unknown malware and viruses by providing robust zero-day protection, and includes features to safeguard your organization from harmful links in real time.

Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) helps to protect your organization from malicious attacks by:
• Scanning email attachments with ATP Safe Attachments
• Scanning web addresses (URLs) in email messages and Office documents with ATP Safe Links
• Identifying and blocking malicious files in online libraries with ATP for SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams
• Checking email messages for unauthorized spoofing with spoof intelligence
• Detecting when someone attempts to impersonate your users and your organization’s custom domains with ATP anti-phishing capabilities in Office 365

Protection through Office 365 ATP is determined by policies that your organization’s security team defines for Safe Links, Safe Attachments, and Anti-Phishing. Reports are available to show how ATP is working for your organization.
