How to Choose an IT Company in Las Vegas: 5 Questions They Hope You Won’t Ask
There are over 100 “IT Companies” in the Las Vegas valley. They all have professional websites. They all promise “proactive support.” They all claim to be the best.
But not all Managed Service Providers (MSPs) are created equal. Some are one-man shops working out of a garage (“Trunk Slammers”). Others are massive national call centers that will never send a technician to your office.
If you are trusting a company with your passwords, your client data, and your livelihood, you need to look past the marketing. Here is the 2026 Checklist on how to separate the pros from the amateurs in Las Vegas.
1. “Do You Have a Local Office I Can Visit?”
The Trap: Many “National” MSPs are just sales offices. They outsource the actual work to a remote help desk in another time zone. If your server physically dies, they have to sub-contract a freelancer to drive to your office.
The Standard: Las Vegas requires boots on the ground. Demand a provider that has a physical office in the valley and W-2 technicians who can drive to your Summerlin or Henderson location in under an hour.
2. “Are You Open 24/7/365 (Really)?”
The Trap: Many local IT firms say “24/7 Support,” but what they mean is “We have an answering service that pages a sleeping technician who might call you back.”
The Standard: In a city that runs on a 24-hour economy, “on-call” isn’t enough. Ask to see their Network Operations Center (NOC). At CMIT, our NOC is staffed by live humans watching screens at 3:00 AM, not just an automated pager system.
3. “Show Me Your Cybersecurity Stack (Beyond Antivirus)”
The Trap: Some providers are still selling 2015-era security. They install Norton or McAfee and call it “Managed Security.”
The Standard: In 2026, with threats like Scattered Spider attacking Vegas businesses, you need more. Ask if they provide:
- EDR (Endpoint Detection & Response): To kill ransomware instantly.
- MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication): Enforced on all accounts.
- DNS Filtering: To block employees from visiting malicious sites.
4. “Do You Carry Tech E&O Insurance?”
The Trap: This is the ultimate “Trunk Slammer” filter. Small, unlicensed IT guys rarely carry “Technology Errors & Omissions” insurance because it is expensive.
The Standard: If your IT provider makes a mistake that deletes your data, who pays for it? If they aren’t insured, you do. Never hire an uninsured MSP.
5. “What is Your ‘Out’ Clause?”
The Trap: Some MSPs try to lock you into a 3-year contract with no way to leave if they do a bad job.
The Standard: A confident MSP earns your business every month. While term contracts are normal for securing better pricing, there should always be a “Performance Clause” that lets you cancel if they fail to meet their Service Level Agreement (SLA).
Don’t Sign Until You Check the Boxes
Choosing an IT partner is like a marriage. It is expensive and painful to get out of a bad one.
