From Concept to Compliance: How a Las Vegas Sports Betting Startup Launched Securely in Under 90 Days
NGCB-aligned network architecture, 24×7 SOC/NOC coverage, and rapid multi-site rollout across Southern & Northern Nevada.

May–July 2025 (≤90 days) to go-live; ongoing managed services.
50 staff onboarded; HQ + 7 remote kiosks & lounges (Reno → Henderson).
Observed up to 99.99% site availability during peak windows.
24×7 coverage at a fraction of a $125k/yr single hire—nights/weekends included.
The Challenge
A Nevada-based sports betting startup needed to move from whiteboard to live wagering—fast. The founders required a secure, NGCB-aligned infrastructure, rapid workforce onboarding, and multi-site connectivity to support traders, customer service agents, wagering kiosks, and live odds displays across the valley and beyond. Hiring a full in-house IT team wasn’t feasible on their timeline, and a single FTE couldn’t provide the 24×7 coverage that gaming demands.
The Solution
1) HQ Build-Out: From Executive Offices to a Trading Floor
- End-to-end workstation deployment: 50 employees onboarded, from executive leadership to traders—asset tagging, baseline images, MFA, and role-based access.
- Trader-grade desktops: high-performance workstations with GPU-capable cards and support for 4-monitor arrays; calibrated for low-latency data feeds.
- VOIP & customer service line: cloud PBX with call queueing, recorded lines for QA/compliance, and hunt groups routed by skill and schedule.
- Dedicated fiber into HQ to support transaction throughput and broadcast feeds; DirectTV distribution to operations areas for live events.
- IGT odds & regulatory displays: latest release deployed on the secured network segment to present real-time lines and regulatory notices.
2) NGCB-Aligned Network & Security Architecture
CMIT acted as lead technical architect and sole managed service provider, building an environment aligned to NGCB expectations for sportsbook operations:
- Perimeter & segmentation: Fortinet next-gen firewalls with site-to-site VPN tunnels, encrypted VLANs, and least-privilege access between trading, operations, compliance, and guest segments.
- Centralized identity & MFA: hardened authentication and conditional access rules for privileged roles and remote access.
- Logging & retention: security telemetry, configuration logs, and access events retained per gaming-industry best practices; structured for audit response.
- Change control & ticketing: standardized requests, approvals, and documented runbooks in a shared knowledge repository.
3) Cybersecurity Operations with 24×7 SOC/NOC
- Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR): SentinelOne managed EDR with behavioral detection and rapid containment.
- Managed Detection & Response (MDR/XDR): 24×7 eyes-on-glass triage and escalation (SOC) integrated with incident playbooks.
- Email defenses: anti-phishing, impersonation controls, and URL/file detonation for high-risk roles.
- Patch, asset & remote management: NinjaOne for automated patching, inventory, and secure remote support.
- NOC monitoring: performance/availability monitoring, alerting, and SLA-driven response across HQ and all remote sites.
4) Multi-Site Expansion: 7 Locations, Reno → Henderson
- Kiosks & lounges: standardized edge appliances, hardened Wi-Fi, and encrypted VPN back to HQ for wager processing.
- Transport & failover: primary fiber where available, LTE/5G backup for continuity; traffic shaping to prioritize transactional flows.
- Centralized control: policy-as-code approach for firewall rulesets and device baselines; one-to-many change deployment to minimize drift.
- Field operations: on-site technicians for cutovers, kiosk commissioning, POS/printer installs, and live-event support.
Results
- Under 90 days to production: concept-to-launch with NGCB-aligned controls, HQ operational, and 7 remote sites online.
- High availability: observed up to 99.99% uptime during peak betting windows; network telemetry shows stable throughput and low latency on trading segments.
- Operational efficiency: near-zero help desk backlog after stabilization; standardized runbooks shortened MTTR on recurring requests.
- ROI vs. hiring: achieved 24×7 coverage at roughly one-third the cost of a single $125k/yr internal hire—without gaps on nights/weekends.
- Audit readiness: policy documentation, access reviews, and log retention packaged for regulator inquiries and internal audits.
“CMIT’s responsiveness and deep understanding of gaming technology made our launch possible in record time.”
