If You Connect It, Protect It
Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2020 is about taking proactive steps to enhance cybersecurity at home and in the workplace. The line between our online and offline lives is indistinguishable and your devices need to be secured no matter where they reside. This network of connections creates both opportunities and challenges for individuals and organizations across the globe.
The first week of Cybersecurity Awareness Month highlights the ways in which internet-connected devices have impacted our lives and will empower all users to own their role in security by taking steps to reduce their risks.
3 Ways to Protect Your Devices
Any device connected to any network can potentially be compromised by a hacker. It’s critical to make sure your devices are regularly patched, backed up, are running anti-virus protection and ideally endpoint protection software. Your internet of things (IOT) devices need to be updated regularly.
1) Make sure you keep your passwords safe and long.
2) Understand privacy settings for every app and service you use on each device.
3) Lock your devices down as much as you can to protect your data.
Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart
Protecting against cyber threats is a critical challenge for organizations of all sizes in both the public and private sectors and serves as a constant reminder of the need to promote cybersecurity awareness across the Nation. NCSAM highlights the importance of empowering citizens, businesses, government, and schools to improve their cybersecurity preparedness. It reminds us that being more secure online is a shared responsibility and creating a safer cyber environment requires engagement from the entire American community.
Take the time to read through our previous blogs to get the facts about cybersecurity. Staying safe online requires knowing what the risks are and how to best defend yourself and your organization from these risks. Understanding how the hackers think and act, is a starting point for defending yourself from them and ensuring the security and privacy of your data and your company’s data.
Stay tuned in October as we’ll post a new blog each week for Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
