Security Awareness Training

Security Awareness Training is the the latest installment of our 15 Ways to Protect Against A Cyber Attack.  There are several things you can do to help prevent malicious emails from getting through to your employees, but ultimately, none of the measures we have are 100% foolproof. Last month, those of you who are Microsoft users, just learned of a bypass you may not even be able to prevent. Read that here. As long as you have employees interacting with eMail, your overall risk will decrease (or increase) in proportion to the education you give (or don’t give) your employees.

Luckily, we have solutions for this threat, and they may be the least expensive thing you do for cybersecurity. We are partnered with companies which specialize in online training programs and online training content. We have modules we can offer in bite-sized portions, so that the training can be done in a few minutes, easily fit at the beginning, middle, or end of a work day, or taken from home–whatever works well for you and your employees.

But is it really necessary? We quote a number of different “eye opening” statistics on one of our pages.

91% of attacks start with an email
60% of those hit by ransomware paid hacker’s price
$200,000 was the average price paid for a ransomware attack in 2020 (it’s higher, now)

If your business is publicly traded, or in a regulated sector, such as finance or medicine, you have a compliance obligation to meet–it really is required. If you want cybersecurity insurance, you won’t get it (or keep it) without proof that you do regular cybersecurity training.

Required or not, Wikipedia recommends it at least annually, even for small and mid-sized companies. it just makes sense to help your staff avoid disasters like phishing emails. You know your spam filter doesn’t catch everything, and that’s true for other malicious emails as well. As good as the filtering software is, it doesn’t reliably catch everything.

Train your staff to have a better chance at avoiding the wrong click. Train your staff on what to do when they’ve just clicked what they should not have clicked. If you have questions around how, just contact us.
