Bundling Dark Web
I’m having lunch at The Courthouse, in McHenry, IL, after a McHenry Chamber of Commerce event, this morning, and it’s a great day to be alive. Rain passed, earlier, and nothing more is forecast for the rest of the day. The Courthouse is all decked out for Halloween, with cobwebs crossing between the exposed beams above the frist floor. I had a really delicious pork skewer, which comes with a salad, and both were satisfying.
This, I’ve found, is often the case: combinations end up being greater than either would have been alone. CMIT Solutions is in the cybersecurity business, and we see this phenomenon in our business all the time. Here’s a good example: combining virus detection, patch management, and dark web research. It’s pretty normal for Managed Services Providers, like CMIT, to combine anti-virus with patch management, and remote access to computers, because it’s frankly easier and faster to fix things if you can just remote into the box from a distance and keep it maintained, rather than having someone drive over there, wherever that is, and fix it with fingers on the actual keyboard.
The innovation that’s valuable, in my opinion, is the introduction of Dark Web Research as part of these other core services. It’s stupidly easy, and inexpensive, to have our partners scan the Dark Web for your information, on the regular. Wouldn’t you want to know if/when your credentials, or those of your employees, end up on the Dark Web? How would you know, if you didn’t engage a service to watch for you?
In most cases, the uninitiated would make themselves more vulnerable by even trying to see what’s on the Dark Web. What IS the Dark Web? It’s the nooks and crannies of the Internet where bad actors lurk to learn how best to attack good law-abiding companies like yours and mine. Just to go and look at the places where those people lurk, if you don’t know what you’re doing, can open up your system to being hacked.
But we can look on your behalf, and on behalf of your employees, to see if your credentials, your email and/or password, have been compromised. We can let you know that such has happened, so you can take steps to at least change your password, for heaven’s sake. Why wait and hope they don’t try the credentials that have been leaked through some breach somewhere? When DID you last change the password to your bank account?!?
Be in the know, and get the heads-up that you need to make changes to be more secure. Bundling this research with other services is the fastest and least expensive way to become more cybersecure in today’s risky world.
