LinkedIn Lets Professionals Get Paid for Their Expertise

LinkedIn Lets Professionals Get Paid for Their Expertise

Is your establishment making the most of its LinkedIn presence? Beyond networking, the platform is exploring new ways for professionals to earn from their content. Learn more about this LinkedIn monetization development here.

LinkedIn Sees a Growing Demand for Paid Professional Expertise

More professionals are turning their skills and industry knowledge into additional sources of income, and LinkedIn has noticed that shift. According to the Microsoft-owned platform, the number of founders in its network has grown 70%, while members who report holding multiple jobs have increased by 26% since 2019.

However, having a large professional network might not always translate into meaningful business opportunities. LinkedIn also found that more than half of Gen Z professionals aren’t sure how to develop relationships beyond the initial connection.

To address this gap, the company is introducing new features to help professionals improve business relationship building, expand their reach, and potentially earn from the expertise they already share on the platform.

What Is Changing on LinkedIn?

The following updates cover several areas of the platform, from how posts appear in your feed to how professionals manage their contacts. Some are already on the rollout schedule, while others remain in limited testing.

New Creator Dashboard and Video Monetization

Perhaps the biggest change for professionals who regularly share thought leadership content is the introduction of new creator tools. LinkedIn is adding a dashboard where users can review their content and monitor performance metrics.

The platform is also testing In-Stream Ads for videos, potentially allowing eligible creators to earn advertising revenue from their content.

A Dedicated Feed for Existing Connections

Beyond its reported plans for subscription-based content, the platform is testing a separate Network feed that exclusively displays updates from existing connections. This can make it easier for businesses to keep up with clients and spot potential partnerships.

Digital Business Cards for Professional Networking Opportunities

At hectic conferences and face-to-face meetings, it’s all too easy to lose important contacts among dozens of exchanged business cards. LinkedIn is planning a global rollout of digital business card alternatives that integrate with mobile wallet apps, so you can quickly access and share your professional details.

Private Notes

Have you ever connected with someone on LinkedIn and later struggled to remember where you met them? If you’re a premium member, you can soon add private notes to people’s profiles to recount previous conversations or remind yourself why a particular contact might be valuable to your company.

Turn Your LinkedIn Presence Into Business Opportunities

LinkedIn monetization can reshape how businesses approach B2B marketing. Instead of relying on traditional advertising, you might benefit more from collaborating with industry experts whose audiences already trust their recommendations.

It’s also important to remember that follower counts aren’t everything. A niche creator with strong credibility may bring more qualified leads than a popular influencer with little industry relevance. Consider building these relationships now, even while LinkedIn’s broader monetization plans remain uncertain.
