Develop Good Data-Backup Habits
Backups are the best way that you can protect yourself from data loss. However, backups and data storage 
management can be challenging to manage on a corporate network, especially when you consider how many people are working from home these days. Put a plan in place to ensure that backups of your critical data are being regularly performed. Its best if these backups are automated and do not rely on manual efforts to ensure that they actually happen. If employees use a local flash drive to backup data, be sure that your systems are also backed up to a cloud or backup hard drive.
Your backups should be secured and protected from external access to prevent unauthorized individuals from getting to them or deleting them. Your backups should be encrypted during the transfer of this information, and when the data is at rest. If your employees use the cloud to store company data, the data should be backed up to a secure, and encrypted local backup appliance, especially if your company requires quick access to your information.
Don’t assume because you are storing your data files in the Cloud that they are being backed up by the company providing this service. As an example, Microsoft does not back up One Drive, Google does not back up Google Drive, Dropbox is not backed up either. You or your IT Service Provider are responsible for backing up this data. Limit Access to Your Data Files
Another way to help keep your data safe is to limit employee access to data and folders. Your employees should only be able to access data based on the principle of least privilege. This means that you should only provide access to data the employees need to perform their jobs. This method can help prevent files they did not need access to from being accidentally deleted or corrupted.
Enforce Strict Cyber Security Habits
Employees, especially when working from home, should be reminded regularly to enable all network and workstation security features, like Virtual Private Networks (VPN), and update their software on all their work devices. Not installing an update or failing to install a security patch is a common mistake that can create a vulnerability in your security where malware or ransomware can get in and wreak havoc on your data and your business.
