Have you ever thought about the blind spots in your business? They aren’t much different than the blind spots in your car. Both are completely avoidable if you take that extra second to have a deeper look. Today, we are going to determine if you have IT blind spots in your business and why this critical to your success using the principles in one of our favorite business books, Traction by Gino Wickman.
The basic premise behind Traction is that you should get a grip on your business before your business gets a grip on you. The book guides business leaders through the steps needed to propel your business forward via Wickman’s Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS).
The EOS is comprised of six key components, a set of tools, and a proven process that will help you and your leadership team get better at three things:
- Vision— instilling your plan and how you are going to get there into your entire organization so you are 100% on the same page.
- Traction®— this is a unique concept to the EOS that helps reinforce the Vision. Traction helps create daily focus, discipline, and accountability so that everyone executes on that vision.
- Healthy— in essence, this is team building and bonding to create a more cohesive, functional, healthy leadership team.
Walking you through all of the EOS components would be overwhelming for one blog post, so we highly recommend reading the book. We are focusing on Vision and how it relates to determining your IT blind spots.
Every company should have a Vision – and not just a Vision but a strong, well-defined Vision. It acts as a guide for how you want your employees and the outside world to see your company. Your Vision also provides the platform (or support) for which you build your 1, 3, and 10-year business goals. Traction dives deeply into this process if you need some extra help with goal setting.
Once you establish those goals, you will set the steps needed to achieve your goals. This should include all areas of your business: staffing, training, processes, marketing, etc.
Unfortunately, technology is all too often overlooked in this process.

If you truly want to move the needle forward with your business, IT must be a consideration! If you ignore your IT department when creating your Vision, so many things could easily derail all of your plans and set you up for failure. Data breaches, system crashes, outdated software/hardware, poor staffing in your IT department, employee turnover procedure, and the list goes on and on.
Driving your business while ignoring your IT blind spots, is like taking too many left turns. You will get nowhere fast!
