Why are my emails going to spam?

How can you be sure that your company’s email blasts aren’t ending up in “spam” or “junk?”

After spending time to carefully craft the perfect company newsletter or weekly email blasts you look at your open rate only to find it is disappointingly low.

The email spam problems can be fixed by having your email reputation records set up with the latest standard.  Read on to learn more about how to stop your emails from going to spam.

Taking specific measures when it comes to your company domain will determine whether or not those blasts end up in the right inbox and not in spam.

Roughly one out of every five emails you send either get filtered as spam or blocked entirely! Email blasts are a key marketing component in any business and without the proper protocol they could end up in the wrong place.

Adding additional email settings, called DNS records, increase your domain’s reputation, and prevent email Spoofing.

Email spoofing is a tactic used in phishing scams where the emails are forged to appear as though they originated from somewhere else in an effort to steal one’s information or to discredit a source.  Setting up your Email with a DKIM and SPF entry is a must-do to prevent email spoofing and make sure your marketing efforts don’t go to waste.

3 key ingredients when it comes to properly set up your domain.

  1. DKIM: DKIM is the computer’s way of digitally signing the emails you send out. When an email is sent the recipients’ server runs a signature up against the email server’s signature to confirm or deny its validity.
  2. SPF: Also known as sender policy framework plays a role when someone receives an email as well. The sender domain is checked to be sure that the person who sent the email is authorized to do so on the domain’s behalf. The SPF record states who is and who is not authorized to send from the specific domain. The SPF can be modified at any time. Be sure to set up your SPF to provide access to everyone on your team necessary.
  3.  DMARC: Finally, the DMARC holds authoritative power and ultimately rejects or allows the email to enter the inbox based on the SPF and DKIM results.

If your email does not pass these tests it will either end up in spam, or it could be rejected entirely by the system.

A lack of proper configuration of DKIM-SPF records creates both a marketing and a security concern.
