Iot and Its benefits

IoT stands for ‘Internet of Things’ and it means connecting devices to the internet and each other. This act of connecting devices can be perceived as the fourth industrial revolution. IoT is becoming largely popular today. The smart lights, smart watched, pedometers everything now comes with a chip in it and that is the whole concept of IoT. The purpose is to collect data that can be used to improve services. It is about networks, it is about devices, and it is about data,” Caroline Gorski, the head of IoT at Digital Catapult explains. As more and more devices are having sensors put in them like smart mirrors in salons, we can expect a total evolution of objects and devices in the future with IoT, AI, and machine learning. The Internet of Things is making the world around us smarter and more responsive, blurring the lines between the digital and physical world. The term ‘IoT’ is used for the devices that are expected to be connected to the internet neither do they need it like a light bulb, a smart thermostat, kids’ toys, or even driverless cars whereas a pc is not counted as an IoT device but a smartwatch is.

The Internet of Things is connecting numerous devices and letting them communicate and share data. The industry is already bigger than expected and is expanding. The number of IoT devices in the world exceeds the population of the world. A Tech analysis predicts that there will be about 41.6 billion connected devices or things by 2025. Another tech analyst predicts that the enterprise and automotive sectors will be responsible for about 5.8 billion devices this year. Utilities will be the number one user of IoT due to the continuing rollout of smart meters. Security devices will be the second biggest user of IoT devices in the form of intruder detection and web cameras. Automatic devices in buildings like– connected lighting will be the fastest-growing sector, followed by automobiles and healthcare.

IoT

Benefits of IoT to businesses and consumers.

The idea of the devices or “things” all connected transmitting data is to help the company improve their product’s performance. Manufacturers are censoring their products so that they can collect data about how they are performing. This can help companies spot when a possible failure or blunder and fix it before it causes any damage. The data collected can be analyzed and used by these companies to make their systems and supply chains more efficient.

The Internet of Things is about making our surroundings and devices we use daily’ smarter’ responsive and chatty. Devices like Amazon’s Echo and Google Home has made it not only easier but interesting to play music, set timers, or get information. Home security systems are appealing as they made monitoring what’s going on inside and outside of the house easier. You can see and even talk to visitors through smart devices.
