While we are proud of all our clients, we wanted to spotlight a select few to showcase their mission and business successes.
Introducing Genesee Land Trust
Genesee Land Trust preserves and protects natural lands and waterways that enhance the quality of life in the Greater Rochester region. These lands provide wildlife habitat, locally grown food, and connections to nature for everyone.
Founded in 1990, Genesee Land Trust owns and manages nature preserves across the Rochester region for the public to enjoy for generations to come. In addition, they have partnered with various towns to create nature parks that are also open to the public.
Lorna Wright, Executive Director, oversees operations, strategic planning, and Genesee Land Trust’s conservation programs, which include new acquisition projects, farmland protection, and city programs. She has been with the Trust for over 11 years and manages a dedicated team of passionate land stewards and committed volunteers. Having previously come from her work at The Nature Conservancy, her commitment to our ecosystem is apparent.
The Situation
In 2020, COVID-19 highlighted the need for a resource to manage the in-office network and remote staff connection at Genesee Land Trust. Their existing service provider of almost ten years had grown to develop a more commercial focus to their business posture, and COVID had revealed some of the cracks in the relationship that had begun to form. At that point, Lorna worked to create an RFP, which was designed to take Genessee Land Trust’s current and future plans into consideration.
The Results
Cheryl Nelan, President of CMIT of Rochester, was selected as the vendor of choice due to its excellent local references and status as an MWBE business. The team jumped right in to ensure everyone at GLT was operational and functioning while making recommendations for security across the network.
In 2021, CMIT’s flexibility was tested when Genesee Land Trust expanded its operational space. Line reconfiguration, moving, converting to cloud computing, and setting up a cloud-based server were all executed without incident.
The partnership Cheryl and the team sought to bring to Genesee Land Trust was more than incident response and project execution—it included mindful guidance, such as cybersecurity and IT policies, that would reduce issues and problems in the future.
To quote Lorna, “When we think about the technology that enables Genesee Land Trust to do what we do, Cheryl and the team have our trust and confidence that everything is taken care of.”
Looking Forward
As Genesee Land Trust shifts and changes, just like the lands and waters it cares for, CMIT Solutions will be there to ensure the technology its stewards use will serve them well. Plans to add additional team members and another WiFi access point are on the horizon, and each quarterly business review the CMIT team holds with Lorna lays the brickwork for the road ahead.
